Wow! I don’t know why I went to see this movie. I really, truly, couldn’t stand Cloverfield, the movie that this film is loosely a sequel to. However, actor John Goodman, in the starring role, was entertaining enough in the trailer to get me to come along for the ride. And yes! what a ride it is!

Here we are some time after the events in Cloverfield. A man (John Goodman), a girl, and a guy are all locked in a bomb shelter, of sorts. The young man and girl don’t know anything about what’s going on, or why, but Goodman’s character tries to explain to them that they can’t go outside. Simple enough, except that Goodman seems a little off. Thinking they are trapped, i.e. being held prisoner, the young folks make plans to escape, take over, and bring an end to this terror.
Wonderfully told with suspense, terror, and intrigue, all aspects missing from the original. Best of all, this film is not told from a camcorder point of view, a la Blair Witch Project.
Excellent film, which I highly recommend.
